Castle Crag - 22/02/2016

Today me and Richard had decided to do Castle Crag, as it's a summit I've been wanting to do since summer last year. We parked the car at the National Trust car park at Seatoller and followed the path alongside Johnny Wood towards Longthwaite. The sun decided to make an appearance here, which made Castle Crag look glorious. From here the path bends around to the West towards Scaleclose Force which is a lovely hidden gem of a waterfall. From Scaleclose Force, we followed the edge of Scaleclose Coppice before eventually reaching a footbridge that crosses Tongue Gill.

We followed the Allerdale Ramble route until we came to a fork in the path. At this point, we took the path up to the right and followed the slate section up to the summit of Castle Crag. Even though It's the smallest of the Wainwright's, It's certainly one of the nicest looking fells with good views from the summit. From the summit, we decided to take a look at the caves in the area. There are a few of them and one of the most prominent ones was Millican's Cave.

We then dropped down to Low How Wood and followed the River Derwent towards Grange. Our original plan was to catch the bus back to Seatoller from Grange, but we had an hour to wait. Instead, we decided to start walking back along the road, calling at Bowderstone on the way. When we reached Rosthwaite there was a bus due so we caught the bus from here back to Seatoller.

7 miles and 1800 feet of ascent
